Spending three months in Byron Bay felt unexpectedly intimidating. Even though it was only a few hours from home, it felt like stepping into another world. I wasn’t sure what the days would bring, who we’d meet, or how it would feel to settle into the rhythm of a place known for its transience. But almost immediately, I noticed a quiet confidence in the people around us. Everyone seemed deeply rooted in their own path, like they were exactly where they needed to be, even if just for a moment.
Mornings were slow and quiet. We would head out early for walks, runs, or a coffee while the town still slept. When I lean into the feeling of Byron Bay through colour, it’s a palette of raw, grounded tones. Deep umber, earthy browns, warm tan and mustard, olive, and soft sage green. Then there is the ocean - shifting between deep blue and pale, crystalline hues. It felt neutral at its core - with gentle pops of colour that caught you by surprise.
Our days were filled with sunrise runs, ocean swims, breakfasts and coffees, slow mornings at the farm and afternoons with friends watching the sun go down. Byron gave us space. Space away from routine, away from the noise. And by the end, it was harder to leave than I expected.
